Cupid's Inspiration

It would be hard to count Cupid's Inspiration among The Top 10 of the most forgotten rock bands. Despite even the fact that
catalog of their songs is not exceptionally vast. The very fact that they're still active, makes it is something worth your while.
Formed in Stanford, they initially play as The Ends. The first line-up included :

Terry Rice ~ Milton-vocal, Wyndham George-guitar, Laughton James-bass,  Roger Gray-drums, Garfield Tonkin-keyboard.

Signing to NEMS label, the band records a single "Yesterday has gone / Dream" (NEMS 56~3500; year:1968). The A-side track
was a cover of Little Anthony and The Imperials  song (earlier released by Veep label - No.V-1285).  The second half of June
1965, the record reaches fourth on the hit chart, and stays there for 11 weeks. Three years later, they record another single - "My
world / Everyting I meant to be" NEMS 56~3702; year 1968, but it ranks 33 only. 1968 also sees the band recording the first

Roger Grey, however, decides to carry on. He teams up with :

                          Paul Shanahan (g)  ex -  Jalopy Ride

                          Bob Poole (bg)        ex - Blues Condition, The Few i Tobias Head

Cupid's Inspiration was still playing concerts in Britain, despite lack of new material. In the
wake of band's popularity, the DJM record company reissues "Yesterday has gone / My
world" (DJS 10300) in 1974. In 1975, Roger Gray quits the band. For a short time, he is
replaced by Paul Brook, and eventually Andy Chaplin sat behind the drums. But suddenly
came the end of the decade of 70 s. A new heavy metal movement emerged - NWOBHM.
Groups, who cited Black Sabbath, Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin as their influences, took
the British music market by storm. But some members of Cupid s Inspiration also decide to
put in their musical two cents in the new phenomenon. With guitarist Steve Walwyn they
form Chevy (check out my page about the band)

But the name survived in memory of  fans. There were several rebirths of Cupid's
Inspiration throughout the 80s. In the beginning of the decade, as :

In the next decade, Cupid Inspiration occasionally appears on the stage. Martin Cure
keeps the group alive. From time to time, the group plays in Coventry (for example with
The Searchers in 2003). The 2003 line-up:

                   The album was re-issued on CD by Repertoire - RR 4543 and Korean Won Sin - WS 885667
                                                         The Korean edition includes 6 extra tracks

The picture on the cover is a work of a renowned photographer, G.Mankowitz. For a short, unconventional tour through world of
the album,  please check out: telia.com. G.Wyndham  and  J. Laughton decide to quit the band, because of  lack of commercial
success. The group takes a break for a couple of weeks. Then, Bernie Lee (guitar) and Gordon Haskell (bass guitar, ex~Fleur
De Lys) join Cupid s Inspiration (band's name remains the same). In 1969, Bell record company releases the SP "Sad thing /
Look at me"  Bells, BLL 1069 The record, as well as its  follow~ups CBS (SP "Without your love / Different Guy" CBS 4722; year:
1970; SP "Are you growing tired of my love / Sunshine" CBS 4994; year: 1970) doesn't sell very good.  The group eventually splits up.
G. Haskell joins Flowerpot Men (later, he appears on King Crimson's  Lizard ). T. Rice concentrates on his solo career (single
"You are my world" ). Bernie Lee joins Orange Bicycle.
