One of the blues-rock pearls of the 60s. Although the true-blue fans regard the MK II LP as better, I think that the spirit of Reflection is simply marvelous.
The initial sounds on the record the humming of a creek with soft guitar sounds in the background suddenly morph into a roaring waterfall of riffs. That's
Junior's Wailing, one of the most stunning tracks on the LP. Listen to Status Quo's version of the song from LP "Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon". Then you'll
feel (yeah, feel not hear) the most touching aspects of the track! Various editions of the album had different versions of the cover. For instance, the photo
from the inside of the British version was used on the front parts in the German and American editions of Reflection !
The great tune was also released on singles. In 1969, CBS released it as "Junior's Wailing / Windmill" (UK, Germany, CBS 4141). In 1971 it was reissued
as "Windmill / You ll never know" (Reflection HRS 9 and Bellaphon BF 18046). The song also appeared on vinyl compilations: 1./ LP"Superb Super Pop
Session" CBS, No. S 7.6396, year: 1970 2./ LP"Disco-Hits International" Bellaphon, No. BI 1555, year: 1972. Also, the song appeared on CD's compilations:
1./ CD"Very best of 25 years British Blues" Edel Records, No.EDL 2709-2, year: 1993 2./ CD"Rock Album" Bellaphon, No. 993.07.026, year: 1995 3./ CD
"Rare trax Vol.35-The British Blues Experiment" Rolling Stone, No.09/2004, year: 2004. Also, in 1999, Repertoire released a compilation "Junior's Wailing
Steamhammer" (REP 4797 WG) with "Junior's Wailing" and "You'll never know". The song also appeared on the limited edition of "Reflection" an
LP released by Akarma in 2002.
Other Steamhammer s stuff: LP- MK II references to jazz; LP- Mountains back to the basics, which are the group's blues roots, also, the album contained
another pearl "Riding on the L&N"; LP- Speech recorded at the end of band's career; an experimental album. Weird as it may sound, the album can be
regarded as a sort of an introduction to something else. A new material that was born a few years later. But that's a different story. Maybe someday, I'd
write a few words about that.
